Living and Dining Room
A wide-open layout offers clean sight lines and a modern feel. Direct access to the home’s two porches from the dining room helps to meld indoor and outdoor living spaces and caters to the lifestyle of residents in New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward, where the home will ultimately be placed in a Make It Right neighborhood.
Because the home will ultimately be sold through Make It Right’s recovery program, products included had to meet rigorous standards for sustainability, durability, and affordability.
The home’s plan is based on LivingHomes’ CK5 model, which was then altered to better accommodate the needs of the Lower 9th Ward. Changes included incorporating a pitched roof instead of a flat roof, adding hurricane-resistant features, and opting for windows instead of glass doors to improve durability, among others.
